I bet if you removed the cap, opened the bottom vent, and started a fire in it, it'd thaw out without the use of a hair dryer.
-
Another approach is to open the vents and start a fire to warm it up. If there is no cooking grate in place you can drop a starter cube in from the top. Otherwise, you could put a starter cube in through the lower vent.

Try a blow dryer. Or lit brickettes.

Thanks, never even thought of those ideas!!!

Tinkle on it. Peepee is sterile. I kid I kid.

Happens to me two or three times a year. That is exactly what I do. Takes maybe 10-15 minutes.

I'm ashamed what I did for a Klondike Bar!!

Discovered my gaskets had frozen together after some rain and a freeze. Tried prying the gaskets apart with a putty knife. Too tight. Tried a little butane torch around the frozen gatkets. Not enough heat. Opened the bottom vent, removed the top cap and dropped a bunch of balled up wads of newspaper in from the top onto the grilling grate and lit them. Easily ran the putty knife between the gaskets all the way around and it opened.
Now the question is how to prevent another freeze-up. For now, I have strips of aluminum foil sandwiched between the upper and lower gaskets to prevent them from freezing together again.

maybe a BGE vinyl cover???

Mine was frozen again this morning and I tried paper towels dipped in oil - opened in a couple of minutes- good suggestion.

maybe continuous long and slow smoking, day after day. nothing wrong with that picture.Large, small, and a mini
-
I usually use a 100 watt light bulb down the top works in about 5 min.
-
If one is really worried about it, put a little wax paper between the gasket after the grill is cool. This works like a champ.

This has happened to me repeatedly over the years, in Minnesota. BGE is under the deck so I get a melt above / freeze below 2-4 times per winter. I tried blowers etc first time, ended up doing Surveyor's trick above....PERFECT. You can buy an aluminum utility clamp light for $10 from Home Depot from which you can remove the aluminum hood and slip down thru the top vent hole. I have 2 lights which if left on for 30-60 minutes with vent lid on can unfreeze the gaskets even in -20F. Remember....it's Minnesota!

I've used a couple of caps full of 91% isopropyl alcohol vs starter cubes and it work for me. In this example - more is not better~HOPE~ is wishing something would happen. ~FAITH~ is believing something will happen. ~COURAGE~ is making something happen......
