... have a good pasty recipe(s) for the egg?  Anyone else too, it's just
that only Sconnies and Yoopers seem to know the difference between a
pasty (meat pie) and pasties (something found at a burlesque).

Can't think of many foods that wouldn't benefit from a bit-o-smoke flavor!

I'm not a Yooper, was born in the lower peninsula, live in North Carolina, now, but I love the UP, especially the Keweenaw.  I've eaten many a pasty up there, but Toni's Country Kitchen in Laurium ruined me for anything else.  Gosh, those things were good!!!  I don't know what makes them so much better, but they sure are.  I can't picture a smoky-tasting pasty, but it might be good.  I can't think you'd need a different recipe for the Egg.  Just try a "regular" recipe.  I've collected many from the Web, but I've never gotten around to trying to make one.  I somehow have the feeling that making really good pastry is an art that takes a while to master, and it sounds like a lot of trouble if it doesn't turn out well.  If you try one, I hope you post the results!

'cept pastys are an English thing. Yoopers and Sconnies are Michigan UP and Wisconsinites respectively

Typically, they are Cornish, so yes they are an English thing too. I would bet the Scott's and Finn's would have something to say about this. I'm going to try a recipe from the Mineral Point, WI region, but most recipes are roughly the same. Just don't leave out the rutabaga's.

I prefer the tatties. Just keep away from the haggis.

haggis, tatties, and neeps make for a good burns night provided there is plenty mccallans to pour over the haggis and the immortal memory isn't too serious
