is a pizza stone required?

the platesetter feels abit rougher than a pizza stone.

Wouldn't recommend at all. The temp of the P/S is way too high. You need a stone that has airspace between it and the P/S. Allow the stone 45 minutes to come up to temp before the first pizza is put on.

Don't do it!! I did once, not good. Buy the BGE stone for your large there pretty good.

    Dan,
I don't have a gasket, so I could care less about temp and position of plate setter... here is how I cook pizza

    Thanks for the posts.

I wasn't able to reply because I wasn't yet approved.

I asked for and  recieved a pizza stone for Christmas and made my first batch of pies a couple of nights ago.

    they were awesome.
