Newbie question please

Hello, I am new to this whole smoker thing and was given what I believe was a green egg by a friend. I have been unable to find any information about this model any help would be appreciated. It is quite old from what I understand, it is 22 inches high and 16 inches across the opening. Is it indeed a BGE or do I have some other brand?

    Cool looking but pretty sure that isn't a BGE....at least not any BGE I have ever seen.

    Clay - nice cooker but don't take it to nuclear temps.  I would stay at or below 350.

    Hello again, thanks for the replies. I have been busy and have just returned to find the last few answers to my post. Since the first post, I spoke to the friend who gave me the egg, and was told that it was purchased about 25 years ago at the BGE store in Tucker, GA? I am not sure when the Tucker store opened so who knows, regardless. It was a present to his father-in-law who eventually gave it back to him. So I believe it is indeed an early clay BGE as stated in one of the replies. I will attach some other pics for Sqeezy as requested. I did cook on it this weekend, after repairing a small crack around the bottom, and fabricating a charcoal grate, and it performed flawlessly. I temporarily perched it next to my DCS grill (which I was also given), until a more permanent solution can be found. An interesting side note, the fire box portion is ceramic on the bottom but the upper ring is a clay with a wire band around it? Not sure if this is how they came or if the internals had been replaced at some point?

    Quick question, found some high heat (500deg) spray paint online, its dark green in color. What do you think of giving this old egg a new coat to pretty it up a little?

    Cool.  I would contact BGE and send pics.....who knows, they may want to but it from you or give you a new one or just have pictures to preserve the history.

    IMHO the coppery green-blue is already really pretty! It it were me I'd leave it just as is. Sometimes messing with an antique can do more harm than good. Good luck with the old girl!

    from what I've heard/read... the older clay models can't withstand the high heat. keep it below 400. maybe someone from BGE will also chime in.

    I'm with you on that one ... I would not paint it ... but I would let the mothership know that you have it ... never know what may come your way?
