Plus one on the ThirdHand. I got two. One for me and one for my brother.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Another supporter of the ThirdHand. I love mine. I also have his wiggle rod. If you buy the combo you get a nice discount. Although, since I bought my High-Que grate, I haven't needed to use my wiggle rod.

Besides the obvious BGE grate grabber thingy.
I bought my grate grabber thingy from a brand-new BGE dealer this summer, but its unlike the pliers-looking tool that most people know of; in fact, it took some digging to find this pic:It works fine, although I can't compare it to anything else. Don't know if this is a new design or one being phased out._____________"Pro-Life" would be twenty students graduating from Sandy Hook next month

+1 for Thirdeye's Thirdhand. I find it the most versatile of all of the tools mentioned above. I have them all but only use the Thirdhand and Three Finger tools.XL, Large, Small, Mini Eggs, Shirley Fabrication 24x36 Patio, Humphrey's Weekender, Karubecue C-60, MAK 1-Star General, Hasty Bake Gourmet, Santa Maria Grill, Webers: 14" WSM, 22.5" OTG, 22.5" Kettle Premium, WGA Charcoal, Summit S-620 NG

I really like the BGE version:
I don't think it strong enough for the CI grate, although should be fine for the stainless one.Never eat anything passed through a window unless you're a seagull ... BGE Lg. -
Interesting that BGE has that as I found this http://www.amazon.com/Steven-Raichlen-Best-Barbecue-Lifter/dp/B000EO0XTU Whick looks eggactly the same ... just different badge.Besides the obvious BGE grate grabber thingy.

Not listed on the Mothership site so maybe it isn't an "official" BGE product. You know, not everything is official BGE. lolJoe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Is it not illegal to use the BGE badge on product that is not :official"?Never eat anything passed through a window unless you're a seagull ... BGE Lg.

I would think so. Not without permission. But I'm just speculating since it isn't listed on the BGE site.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Be nice to try before buy ... as it doesn't look particularly strong!
Perhaps someone here has one and can chime in ...?

On the newer eggs, with the stainless steel grates (ie. not porcelain or cast iron), a pair of pliers seems to work fine.

I just use one of those 3-pronged garden cultivators very similar to this one:

I just bent the claws a little more to give them a better angle and it hasn't failed me since I got it. Cost was about $4 at the local home improvement store.

Its not only strong enough to lift the CI grate, but I've lifted the grate and a pork butt off (with a gloved hand balancing the other side) to add more lump.Besides the obvious BGE grate grabber thingy.

I have this Raichlen lifter. It works fine but I don't use it as I prefer my Third Hand Tool as I can hang my grates easier than I can find place to set down a hot grate. I've seen the BGE version and other than the name and I think color of the handle, it looks & feels the same as the Raichlen version.thanxGreyGoose

I have the BGE one and really like it. Which, btw looks a lot like this, http://www.amazon.com/Pan-Gripper-Deep-Dish-Model/dp/B0001MRSCK/ref=sr_1_44?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1317318772&sr=1-44
If I ever get around to buiding a table, I will get the
Large, medium, small and a mini. Egg'n, golfing, beer drinking, camping and following football and baseball.
