Can someone tell me exactly how I should calibrate the BGE thermometer? Can I simply remove it from the dome w/out damaging anything?
Thanks so much.

Bull, check out this link: How Do I Calibrate My Thermometer
Yes, you can just remove it from the Egg. I have several diffferent thermometers that I've bought from Tel Tru and I often move them from cooker to cooker.

Sure. If the little clip is attached on the inside part of the probe you need to pinch it, then pull that off first. Then just work it loose by pulling on the dial side of the thermometer. To calibrate, just boil some water and carefully dip the tip of the probe in the water without letting it touch metal. I use a pair of pliers to hold the thermometer when I do this. Watch the needle go up and make a note of whether it is plus/minus of your boiling temp standard. For most it will be 212. Simply turn the nut on the back of the dial to adjust the needle a bit and then test it again. No need for perfection here but you should get it close.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html
