Excited that my BGE should be arriving this weekend. Any suggestions for good things for a first cook?

Start with something you are comfortable grilling...burgers, chicken, steaks. Just get a feel for it and how to adjust the temp then branch out as you get more comfortable with it. There is no limit to what you can do on it and there is plenty of inspiration around here.

Thanks. I was thinking of something that cooks fairly quickly in case I have challenges maintaining temp.

I think a Trex steak is easy and helps you with temperature adjustments. And, the steak will convince your wife that you made the right purchase.NakedWhiz has a good write up on it.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

I did the "The Chicken" which is also noted on nakedwhiz but did drumsticks only as an appetizer for friends as my first cook. They were quickly finished off.

I'm gunshy with new Eggs. I would stay below 400 for the first few cooks. There is some debate as to whether curing the gasket works or not, but it is something to consider. Enjoy your new BGE. I cannot get over how well the BGE does BBQ Chicken. It's a nice and easy starter so I would give that a shot.

There is a little bit of a learning curve with an EGG if you've never used one before. Keep it simple to start.

i agree with spoon! anything you have done a hundred times before and feel like you have mastered. that way if you screw something up it is not too bad everyone you feed will know you will get better

Thanks everyone. Ending up going with a simple tri-tip. Came out a little more 'done' that I would have liked but it did seem much more moist than it would have been if cooked to the same temp on my old gasser. Forgot to take pictures - sorry!
