Hello,
If you have old links that you want to work below are some
directions to help you sort out the mess. Every post in both the new
and the old forums has an ID number. This is ID is used as part of the
web address to a post. In the old forum original thread posts and
replies were treated the same way when referenced in the web address
(URL). However, in the new forum, original posts and replies are
handled differently when referenced in the web address. I explain this
because this complicates the fix.
For the example I have selected I have chosen a post where I replied
or commented on a post originally made by Mainegg about ABT's. The ID
for Maineggs original discussion is 856824. The ID for my comment on
this discussion is 856927.
Old links have the format:
DISCUSSION:http://www.
COMMENT: http://www.eggheadforum.com/
( OR http://www.greeneggers.com/
In the new forum the link to these would look like this:
DISCUSSION: http://biggreenegg.
COMMENT: http://biggreenegg.
Notice how the web address (URL) is different between the two now.
This is unfortunate, but it is something we will have to deal with.
To fix your links, get them in a html or txt file and open them in WordPad then do the following
http://www.greeneggers.com/
Notice, the ID number is stuck in the middle, so we will have to clean up the left and the right.
Go to Edit -->Replace
Find: http://www.egg*&id= (OR http://www.gre*&id=)
Replace:http://biggreenegg.
This cleans up the first part (left) of the links, but there is still the tail end (right) to clean up.
Go to Edit -->Replace
Find: &catid=1
Replace:
Note, we are leaving the replace box blank.
Now, we have cleaned up the URL's for discussions, but some of your bookmarks or links may be comments.
So we should save this file, and then start over with another file to create the bookmarks for comments.
To fix your links related to comments, get them in a html or txt file and open them in WordPad then do the following
http://www.greeneggers.com/
Notice, the ID number is stuck in the middle, so we will have to clean up the left and the right.
Go to Edit -->Replace
Find: http://www.egg*&id= (OR http://www.gre*&id=)
Replace:COMMENT: http://biggreenegg.
This cleans up the first part (left) of the links, but there is still the tail end (right) to clean up.
Go to Edit -->Replace
Find: &catid=1
Replace:
I will post more if I figure out a better solution.
