And is it too late if I've already used my egg a few times?

Just take your thermometer out and put it in boiling water. Should read about 210-212. Adjust the nut in back to read correctly. All done!

It's never too late. It needs to be redone every once in a while unless your using another thermometer that monitors the grate temp(Ex: maverick 73 or 732). Do it how PhilsGrill mentioned. If you want to get more exact based on altitude and barometric pressure use the following link.

Just a little bit of advice to make it easier. Poke the egg thermometer thru a piece of cardboard to hold the it in the boiling water. Make sure the probe does not touch the bottom of the pan also. The rest is easy. Remember it gets hot.

Thanks taco I'm going to try this tomorrow; I need to get a baseline of known conditions before I start delving into questions involving multiple probes at multiple locations in the egg

I've always found that a little Grateful Dead works wonders.
  • I didn't calibrate mine either. Threw that little piece of paper away that was with the dome thermometer ( i think) Hoping it is pretty close to right anyway.
