My first cook on my large after applying a caltronics gasket on the bottom buried in high temp ultra cooper gasket maker. I also applied a ultra copper gasket on the dome.
My cook went great and came to temp fast and when the cook was over it snuffed out fast. Now to see if the gasket material lasts.

I just have the BGE Nomex and don't have problems with burning but getting it to stick is my problem. Sounds like the copper is sealing tight.
-
Those brats look perfect to me....I know some will say you should soak in beer, but I like them hot of the egg!
-
I have a nomex gasket on my other large and after cleaning the base and dome on that egg used this stuff.
I first applied it to the gasket and to the base and dome then stuck it. So far it has held up just fine.
I have a very tight seal using the ultra copper gasket maker. I don't know how long it will last or if it has gave anyone any trouble. I know some here are using ultra copper for a gasket only. I hope they speak up. -
Thanks Elizabeth, Those were Johnsonville brats. We got full eating them. :P Many times I have eaten brats simmered in sourkrut. :P Very good!

Looks like ya done good, Son!! Now, with a seal that tight, all you gotta do is bait the Egg, prop up a pole to hold the lid open, and when the ground hog nibbles on the bait, the dome will drop and trap the ground hog. Then, you can revel in two huge accomplishments for the week.......fixin' the Egg and trappin the ground hogs. Man, you're startin to make me feel like a failure over her, 2fat.
-
Hey Jack, What started out as me needing to work the new ground hog relocation program has been a complete success. I set a live trap on Friday and on Saturday caught my first of three ground hogs. After executing the relocation program I was ready to reset the trap for round two on Sunday and round three on Monday. Now all three are relocated and I am a happy camper.

Lookin good. Your gasket might last forever. Did you have any problems removing the plastic wrap?
-
i used the red rtv as a gasket.... cause that's what i had in my tool box at the time...it's been on there for at least seven years..... so signs of giving up....rr

What is the foil outside of the fire ring for? -RP

Great post Tim
I will keep this bookmarked for when/if I replace my gasket

Hey Clay, I don't know about forever but, I'll take a long time. No problem removing the cellophane, it came off easy peasy. Tim
-
Hey Randy, I Filled the space around the fire box and fire ring with foil. I want check out the air flow then see if there is any difference.
-
Wow! This may be a really good thing. :cheer:
Thanks for the input. -
Hey Shane, Thanks. So far so good. I'll report any problems.
-
Hi Tim, I did my Lg. a couple weeks ago, I'm real happy with it.
-
Tim, Your picture appears to be made of an ultra copper gasket maker with a uniform thickness. Did you make it on the side and glue it to your egg?
-
Ya Tim I made it in a mold, then just glued it on, real easy.
-
I like that. You should sell them....SEE YOU IN FLORIDA, March 14th and 15th 2014 http://www.sunshinestateeggfest.com You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP
