I have a Large Egg at home already with about all the accessories and love it. We just bought a camper and now have a seasonal site and want to get a smaller egg to have there. Trying to decide which one to get. I am really leaning to the medium but wife has concerns with the weight because we do want to take a couple trips to other campgrounds with it....

Most people camp with smalls. I had a medium and loved it. I loaded it by myself with the insides out, but the small would have been easier. Unless your wanting to camp and cook for a bunch of people, the small will be the best choice.

see that is why i am in such a pickle. I know being here in a seasonal I will be cooking for much more people and I love to do that and I will only be taking it maybe twice a year somewhere else. that is why it is such a tough decision. man oh man

If you dont mind picking up heavy stuff by yourself, then go for the medium. You wont regret a medium I dont think. The small will just be lighter. I wouldn't try picking up a large myself, but I loaded my medium about three times by myself. If everyone on this board was polled you would get a 75% small vote I'm sure. Just go in the store and take the guts out of a medium and pick it up. I know that sounds stupid but if thats the deciding factor, then I'm sure they would understand.

I am anxious to see all the replies. I have a large but I am so impressed by it that I want a smaller one for my rv. As you say weight is a concern. Great idea to take the medium apart but more chances of breaking a part putting it back together. Anxious to see what everyone says.

I am the other 25% that say medium. I bought my small before the medium too, but the medium quickly kicked the small to the curb.

Good morning :) for staying pretty much in the same spot i would lean to the med. only because you will tend to be cooking for more company LOL I can move our med and load it by myself if I take the guts out, but I am a rugged girl. we used to take our other small camping and Neil built a carrier for it that flipped over and became a small stand for it. that was nice till our son snagged it and seems to have kept it....
a small will do a lot of cooking.......
You will have fun no matter what you decide :) and if you go with the small and it is to small you can always add the mini LOL Julie ;)

    FWIW:

The Nest Handler offered by BGE is available for Mediums, but not offered for smalls.

I have a medium and when I first got it I was amazed at how easy it is to transport. I removed the fire ring, grates and cap and put it on the seat next to me.
My opinion is that the medium is the largest egg that is easliy transported. (I'm talking one person without contraptions or disassembly). I think it all depends on your physical strength. Not that it requires tremendous strength but it does require some.
I would suggest you go to the dealer see what it takes to pick one up.

Well I have decided to go with the Medium. I think it will be the best fit. I don't want to lose the cooking space and I can get help loading it as my balance is bad from a blast injury as some of you know. I am hoping that the larger size Wok I just got for my Large Egg will fit the medium.

You could also get a Large in a Nest with a Nest Handler. It makes the Large like it is on a dolly truck(2 wheeler, hand truck) and VERY EASY to load, unload if you have ramps. Then all the accessories would interchange. ;) I have one and it makes the Large VERY mobile with little effort.Good luck.
  • get the medium and then a mini to take to the other camp sites the other times :)
