Got a big paper nest in our backyard. It's about the size of a soccer ball. The bees are quite small - probably 3/8" long. Any idea what they are?

Not sure what kind of bees they are, but here's one method for removing them.
Be careful as this method may not leave you with a tree!

SCARY is what I would call them!!

Having been involved is similar mischief I think that I grew up with those guys. Or I am related to them, not sure :woohoo:
But I am definitely having a deja-vu moment -

Pretty sure it's hornets. My plan was to saturate the nest with wasp spray at dusk then finish it off with my weed burner. Two problems; it's deep in the tree and my CFO threw a penalty flag on the plan - says we need a pro.
-
Yikes! If you do it yourself, make sure you have some chewing tobacco on hand-it helps the sting. My grandparents used to do it when we got stung.

I would say go with the CFO because if Mama ain't happy nobodys happy.

You have a brilliant CFO - definitely a job for the pros. Maybe you could get Billy the Exterminator to relocate them (he he he). Hornets are bad news - they will eat you up! Be careful, once stirred up they are brutal.
-
Good call.I ain't skeered of wasps or yellowjackets but Hornets are another story. One sting would feel like a punch from a Pro Boxer. They are TOUGH!
-
It does work.

Okay - you convinced me. I picked up the baseball bat

 Good luck with them evil critters.

Frank the way that always works out is you get them in a tizzy and run for the house. Then you notice one of the dogs is out and in the far side of the lawn.. Always works out that way :laugh:Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.
