Tried burgers a new way...

Someone on this forum posted a picture of a burger with a slice of onion formed into the top of the patty. I decided to try that for tonight's cook:
Raw burger with onion by Cybert99, on Flickr
I started the burger onion side down, figuring that as it cooked the moisture released by the onion would flow up and flavor the meat above it. Seemed to work pretty well. (I also put some bacon on top of the meat, hoping the fat would render down. That was less successful -- especially when I flipped the burger over as the bacon promptly caught fire.)
Here's the finished result:

This was one of the best burgers I've ever had. There was a nice char on the outside, a bit of smokiness, and the grilled onion was very good.
I toasted the buns, added some crispy shredded lettuce with a bit of ketchup and mustard; then I opened a frosty beverage to wash it down. Awesome!

That looks AWESOME. Nice work.I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

Looks great but I have to say great choice on the beer. I love working next to their brew pub.

To be honest, I'm not a big beer drinker. A lot of the microbrews have a bitter taste that I don't like very much. (Not sure if that's the hops or the malt or the wheat..)
That Scuttlebutt, though, was smooth and very drinkable. I enjoyed it a lot! Where's it brewed?
Everything tasted so good tonight that my wife and I were both hungry again 30 minutes later. -
Brewed in Everett, WA north of Seattle 30 minutes. Any Belgium Ale is going to taste like that one there. So a Belgium style ale is going to be up you alley then. By the way I am going to have to give that burger idea a try.

CWM was the originator of that technique. He posted this pic so many times that we started razzing him relentlessly until he finally gave up any further posts of this burger. It was all in fun, though! Here's his pic......one more time! :woohoo:

Yes sir, I remember his quick onion burgers, he was just nuts about 'em. :cheer:
