stone table complete

I got Large BGE about 2 weeks ago and last Saturday i was cooking and decided to build a table. on Sunday mid day i ran over to my local landscape yard (that i currently work at) and picked up a few things and this is what i came up with in about 5 hours. the granite had to be done during the week after i had the base and the door work done.

Nice work! Did you use mortar? or does the weight of the top hold it all together? How did you attach the door to the stone?

I didn't do anything as an adhesive on this one because the plan is to build a house next year so have to tear it down. But I would recomend useing a good retaining wall glue to glue the block together. I did glue the middle up right piece in place because I didn't want it to fall down. As for the door I looked at a lot of doors and decided to build my own. I just got some rough cut cedar 1x and cut it too size. I attached it with a 1x along side the concrete blocks and screwed it in with some tapcon concrete screws and just used a regular hinge from there.

Reminds me of the traditional BBQ pits of the 50's and 60's built in the backyards of 'new suburban' neighborhoods. Only yours is waaaaaaay better with the addition of the egg!

thanks it is working out great. ya everything but the door is made out of stone. the part that holds the egg is a 2" thick piece of granite and the countertop part is made from a 1 1/4" thick piece of sandstone that has been polished

wasn't the cheapest thing to build but i didn't pay retail either but i did figure out retail cost on everything (countertop being the most expensive part ) it figured out to be $1450.00 without labor to build. that was everything from the tops to the hinges that were used

How did you cut the hole in the stone top? I am a stone mason and may build a stone setup for my large BGE some day. Right now it's just in the nest that was "free" with a sale the store was having.

I had a local granite company make the 2" thick piece for the egg to sit on and also make the top they did very nice with a polished top and rock pitched edges. they used a CNC to cut the hole for the egg same thing they use to cut sink holes and what not

Thanks. btw, What is a CNC? Some sort of hole cutting lazer or machine of some kind I imagine..?

A CNC is c computer controlled router and the stone shop has one for cutting sinks and stoves and what not so they cut the hole. you could also go to a water jet place to get the round hole cut out if you wanted

ya i am a newbie don't have 3 eggs yet :) but that turned out looking really really good . i like to no maintenance when it come to stone. i am not going to be drilling a hole through the counter top to install a big umbrella for them rainy days. i used to just roll my Gasser unto a cheap pergola when it rains but no doing that now.
