question for all you experienced eggers. bought my large bge 60 days ago at the waldorf eggfest.
today discovered the firebox had separated, 3/16 in or so, straight down from top to bottom. not a jagged or hairline crack due to heat but what appears to be the result of a fault in the manufacturing process.
Was wondering if anyone out there has experienced similiar problems with the firebox and what was the out come. have querried the local BGE rep, Seasonal Distributors of Waldorf, no response yet.
from the south of Maryland
thanks

Separated sounds like something should have happened. Broken with a straight line is damage.
Get a warranty replacement if it holds the fire grate, just keep cooking. -
Sounds like you have the newer firebox that's made that way. Is it possible you just noticed it?

My fire ring has been split like that for a long time and has not show any other "problems" and works fine. Good luck and Welcome to the forum.

Your good to go! That is how they make them to prevent cracking.

As others have stated the new style fire box has a vertical cut to aid in expansion and contraction to help control future cracks. So far I believe it works great.
Egg on, your good to go.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Mine was purchased 12 months ago. That is the way it came from delivery. It's right, don't worry about it, just cook and enjoy.

I concur. My 3 year-old Egg doesn't have the cut in the firebox that the current Egg's have. If the cut looks like it is intentional, then it is. Otherwise get it replaced under warranty.

Mine is made with a vertical slit in it. Maybe this what you're seeing?

Maybe a year??? If it looks like this: New Firebox FAQ, then it's the new firebox. The Naked Whiz

my dad always told me, if you don't know, ask. i asked about the crack in the box, you all came through great - the link sent by "naked whiz" was right on.
