I know I need to preshrink it and I plan to bake it @ 350 for about 20 minutes. But, I've got a couple of concerns.
1. Is the paper backing safe in the oven at that temp?
2. What happens to the glue? Does it ooze out and make a mess?

No oven... dryer. What glue?? Should be only the gasket and nothing else.

Mine came with a peel off back

Where did you get it from?
-
not sure where they got theirs but you can get adhesive backed nomex from bbqgasket.com and high-que.com.Be WellKnoxville TN

Well then, I would tell him to follow their instructions on installation. I'm sure putting in the clothes dryer won't hurt anything and pre shrink it.

I asked the folks at high-que about this and they said to follow their instructions and it shouldn't need to be pre-shrunk.The Naked Whiz

Thanks TNW I got mine from BBQ gaskets and they do not mention pre shrinking, I just assumed not to due to the pre-applied adhesive and paper backing. Now I just hope it really does not shrink.Be WellKnoxville TN

I'd check the High-Que site and see if their instructions are there. The guy mentioned that they tell you do apply it a certain way in order to deal with any shrinkage that might occur. COmpare that to whatever instructions came from your place. Good luck! The Naked Whiz

I just put on one of the High-Que gaskets the other day. If I recall correctly, it just said not to stretch the gasket when applying.
