I got a L BGE and have not been able to get the temperature much higher than 500 degrees. Any ideas? Fire box is aligned properly and all holes seem to be open.
Could it be bad lump? How would I know? Could I need to calibrate thevtherometer? How?
Any other tips, hints, or ideas?

Calibrate thermometer by taking temp of boiling water. Should be 212 C. Adjust nut on thermometer to match. Mine was off 40 degrees when I bought it.
Stike post should get your temp to 700.Large & MiniMax in Lexington, KY -

I want to calibrate my thermometer but I'm unsure how to remove it from the Egg without damaging it. How is it done? Do I just apply lots of force and yank it out?
