Okay, I'm inspired by Richard FL's thread on food dislikes. Now, what about the "strangest" food you have eaten?
Aside from very old GI C rations, that would have to be porcupine.
Definitely an acquired taste, and once was enough for me!

    hrmm, does Haggis count? lol

Actually, thinking about it, I'd have to go with laverbread, which is bread made out of boiled & pureed seaweed. In Wales, it's considered a delicacy.

I thought C Rations were very good. Of course, I may have been real hungry at the time.

    Rattlesnake and Armadillo.

Actually, Armadillo was excellent, but they found that some armadillos had leprosy, so people quit eating them. That was back in the '70s.

I was on a Muskox hunt back in 1989 and after the hunt I stayed with an Eskimo (Inuit) family for a couple of days while waiting for my flight. Long story short, they talked me into trying quak (sp)?

It was whale blubber dipped in hot whale oil like a fondue. It tasted like a Goodyear Eagle racing tire dipped in warm, dirty aquarium water. DOUBLE YUCK!!

Strangest one for me is a "thousand year old egg." It's an asian "delicacy." My best friend growing up was Chinese and his parents were AMAZING cooks so i would try anything. most of it was incredible but they were very understanding when i didn't like something. the 1000-year-old egg is a duck egg that is buried in limestone powder for about 90-days. it turns into a jello sort of consistency with a number of different colored layers. and it tastes like arse! it was possibly the only thing that i didn't truly enjoy eating at their home!

I spent about 5 months over in Japan for work. Tried quite a few strange things. Probably the strangest was fish balls (yes, they do have them) it was raw of course. Something to sample once, definitely not on my try again list.

A strange thing that was actually good was squid sashimi. Tentacles on it are still moving, you don't eat those raw though. The come back a bit later, take that part a way and make tempura. Very good!

    Hmm,

    - Fried crickets and yams
    - Green caterpillar sushi
    - Fugu sashimi, from the poison puffer fish (nerve toxin)
    - Gator tail
    - Shark fin soup
    - Lutefisk, lye cured fish
    - Rattlesnake
    - Rooster testicles
    - Earthworm, this was HORRIBLE

Probably a whole lot more I forgot about.

It really isn't bad. Maybe more similar to lamb than beef or bison.

My strangest food might be whale, too, but it was pretty good when made by my friend's Norwegian mom. I also had horse when I was there, too.
