Tinfoil around big green egg???

I was looking at pictures of the SoCal Eggfest at Upland, CA. I noticed that one of the LBGEs had tinfoil around the top of the bottom half. The tinfoil went down the inside and outside about 5 or so inches and was all around the egg. Any ideas as to why??? UPEgger.

No. shiny plain aluminum. Whatever "meat" being cooked in the LBGE was wrapped in cloth and tied with butcher string. The package was approx 12"x 4"x6". I suppose it could have been bulk cheese also. ??

I asked the question below and was told the cooks using the foil to prevent burning up the gasket for the new owners of the Demo Egg. They were cooking very high heat.

Does that mean that using foil during a high temp cleaning will protect the gasket? It's not that I'm so much worried about the gasket, it's the hassle I hear about cleaning up when it does burn up :blink:
