I was cooking bacon for the first time on the Egg for my stuffed pork tenderloin and wow what a site. I think i got the temps a bit too high because it looked like a raging inferno when i opened the lid to flip them. So i knew i needed to flip them very soon and i forgot to burp the Egg......and whammo!!! giant flame ball shoots out and there goes all the hair on the bottom of my forearm....i was proud of myself that i didn't drop the lid and really create a problem..That was first time my Egg fought back at me...lesson leaned...lower temp for bacon and ALWAYS burp the Egg!!

I can tell you about another mistake you won't make twice. I was doing a clean, but couldn't seem to get the temp past 550 so I decided to remove the platesetter to see if it would get any hotter. I only had to move the platesetter about 5 feet to get it to the table. At about the time I cleared the base it was like the gloves I had on weren't there. I don't know how I didn't drop it! Blistered 3 fingers on both hands.

These. I still had 5 feet to go when My hands started burning. That was the longest, quickest 5 feet I ever had. I think the only reason I didn't drop the platesetter is it was because my fingers would heal! The Platesetter was expensive!!!!

Need to buy some Orka's. They are silicone mitts designed to withstand about 500*. They are not insulated, so you have to still PLAN AHEAD where the platesetter is going :( and move quickly, but I have never suffered blisters with them.
One link (sure there are others):

Thanks! I don't know what the temp of that platesetter was down near the fire, but the dome was 550 and it was there for about an hour. I don't know if even those gloves would have withstood that test. I can laugh about it now, but not that day. I'll never try that again !
