I have a Lodge 5 qt and it seems to fit fine. I haven't actually cooked with it on the small yet, but I have given it a test fit. It is about 9 inches diameter at the bottom so I don't think air flow will be a problem.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I'm with Jason.
I have a 5 and a 4.5 and both work great in my small.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
I have a DO similar to those described above. Will be cooking baked beans in it this weekend for the first time. Fit checks on the small seem to be fine.

I use a 4.5qt enameled kitchenaid the most. I would go with enameled over regular cast iron. If you are going to get a regular cast iron dutch oven I use a #8 in my small.

If I had it to do over again I think I would get this one.
The lid doubles as a skillet and it seems like that would be handy...and there is no long handle to cut off.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
That is a great model and you can't pass on the price.
$35.00 and free shipping...
Tempted to get another.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
I have two of those and I find that I use the lid by itself as much as I use the entire thing. Very versatile I paid more money for mine too, that is a geat deal

I agree. We have this one and it works great, stew in the bottom and corn bread in the top. I also have a tremontina enamelled from wally-world in the 41/2 to 5 qt size also a good fit.
