Very First Cook...Spatchcock!

Successfully made it through my first cook last night! Did a nice spatchcock chicken Cooked it at 400*, direct heat on a raise grid (done up with bolts and washers, worked like a charm.
I was amazed at how easy it was to control the temperature. Closed down the vents as the temp came up and locked it in at 400 and it stayed there the whole time. Can wait to keep cooking...I'm doing up a prime rib for my family tomorrow...nice 6.5 lb bone in, should be good. Pictures to follow!
Virgin egg:
Am I gonna grill the dog? (definitely not.)
And then there was fire...
Chicken rubbed down...simple poultry seasoning, garlic, salt, and chili powder:
All cooked up, took about 80 minutes
Plated up with some peppers and vidalia onion:
Cheers, and thanks for looking!

Looking Fine!
The look on your dog's face is hilarious, can he talk?
 -
Welcome & Congrats!
You might want to put the 3 feet under the BGE to dissipate the heat better, 2 in front on either side of vent a few inches away and the other centered in the back. JMHO. Looking forward to more cook pic's.BGE'er since 1996 Large BGE 1996, Small BGE 1996, Mini BGE 1997 -
That is good advice. Can't be too careful when they sit on wood.

Very nice. I could barely focus the camera. You got great pics of your first cook. Love butterflied chicken, my most favorite way to cook a whole chicken. Look forward to seeing/hearing more of your Egg accomplishments.

The feet are already there! I added them just today.
The dog cannot talk, but I'm pretty sure she understands...I think she actually thought I was going to put her in the grill! My wife snapped a pretty good shot there. -
Well done! Looking forward to more successes and more pix. The chicken looks perfectly cooked and I'll bet you're a hero now!Judy in San Diego

@ XLentEGG: She's a pembroke welsh corgi, but she's long-haired, not too common for the breed. Makes her look a little bit like a shelty with a fox-like face. We lover her :cheer:
