If you are going to order one also grab a wiggle rod they are very useful as well -

On the left hand side of the screen for this site, look down the list for "thirdeye", click on it and it will take you to his member site where you can click on his e-mail to contact him. Good man......easy to deal with.

Ron, I haven't lit the egg yet, but I'm getting ready to. I will report back. But, it's gotta make more sense than trying to duplicate "the thickness of a credit card" in the dark on the patio at 3:00AM!!

Not to take anything at all away from "Thirdeye" ..but BGE provided every thing needed to maintain temps....air in..air out..it's really that simple..don't need no electronic ontrol. or a lower vent daisy wheel..learn to use what was provided..then again..if you got money to waste, by all means spend away...the egg from the factory will, can, and does maintain consistent temps all night long...without any additional devices..

On the other hand, not to take anything away from "WessB", I wouldn't be without my trusty DigiQ.

Will this work on an XL BGE?

Not really sure, hayman. Still testing it out on my large. But, I'd e-mail thirdeye for a response to your question. He's be happy to give a an answer........

it's just a nice simple visual indicator, like the daisy is. before the daisy, you had to tilt the ceramic rain cap to control air flow (and/or use the lower vent).
'lucy' (the little device for the sliding door on the lower vent) isn't 'cheating' any more than the daisy is. i think you'll like it. i use mine for hot smoking around 180-200, and for dialing in lo-and-slo cooks anywhere from 225-275.
only very roughly, i find the ovals correspnd to about a hundred degrees dome temp.
two and a half holes open equals 250 (for me). mine's older, from a guy named 'eggor', but i think dimensions are the sameed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
And I surely wouldn't enjoy all-nighters nearly as much without my Maverick ET-732.
