Pablanos are very hard to come by in the GWN. Got a bunch and was planning on chilis rellenos.
Burned the skins

Put them in paper bags

Had a coupla beers and didn't think about it being below freezing outside. Anyway they overcooled and couldn't pull the skin off.

Trying to salvage the cook I decided to make a casserole
Lined the pan with what I could salvage from the chilis

Put the Spanish rice on top

Some cheese on top

Some pork and chopped pork tenderloin with Mexican spice

Toasted tortillas

More cheese and tortillas grilled on the egg topped with more pablano

Some salsa and chorizo underneath

Just about ready now..Dayum

Way to go Steve. Actually it looks quite good! I don't see many nice pablanos around here either.

Steve: That looks DANG good for something you "messed up"!!! Got my mouth watering!! But I totally understand, when you are going for one thing, and end up with another, it's disappointing. But seriously, looks like GREAT SAVE to me!! :woohoo:

Nice save, ya done good! :cheer:

In reference to the 1st pic . . . ya know most of us take the sticker off the peppers before they hit the grill! :woohoo:
Or is it hard to do at beer thirthy! :silly:

All seriousness aside :ermm: how do you make the topping for rellenos?

Well, I was a goaltender back in the day. Thanks Michelle but it was a dumb mistake. If I had brought them inside I would have been fine

Looks fantastic from this end of the cook. Nice job and if it tastes as good as it looks it should be heaven eating.

    Steve,

I suppose you figured the price tags would come off with the skin too, eh? :P

Great save man, it really looks yummy.

    Looks good from here anyway.

I am surprised you couldn't just let them warm and get most of it off.
  • I don't know if I could eat that? mmmmmmmm YES I COULD...SHIP IT Steven! NICE! :woohoo:

  • Nice, Steve. If you didn't tell us you messed up, no one would have ever known! I'm sure your girls loved it.
Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 6 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

That's one heck of a save! Creative thinking. Got me droolin. :cheer: Artist's call this 'a happy accident', when during the creative process something goes wrong, technical or beer blunder- whatever, and in the unexpected shift that threatens disaster something beautiful happens and in the end, when all is said and done, it becomes great work of art.

Steven, I would certailnly call that a successful salvage! :) I just love roasted peppers, especially poblanos.

Don't feel bad. I don't know what it tasted like but it looked like a great EGGspirit save.
