I am having my garden (jungle) totally cleared. I am keeping the apple wood to use, to smoke on the egg. Is Pear wood worth keeping? Don't seem to hear it mentioned. Andy

Andy,
That's because most can't get it. It's wonderful with chicken.
You may like chunks better than chips, just a lot more labor intensive. Also, be sure and let this stuff air dry and don't pack it into a dark damp space or it will mold. I haver also found that you get some great flavor from fresh green wood. -
I have some that is just finished seasoning from last year. I helped my friend cut his trees and I went home with peach, pear, bradford pear, and hickory. Not a bad deal I broke mine down to 4" x 2" chunks.
It was VERY wet/green when I first got it, never saw anything like it, so make sure you season yours long enough.Knoxville, TN

You might want to burn some of that bradford pear and smell it before you use it on meat.
It's not a pleasant smelling wood. -
Pear is terrific, as is just about any wood from fruit bearing tree. Fig is probably my favorite, or maybe peach.
Being in Italy I would think you could have almost limitless supply of olive and grape vine. Both are terrific for smoking. Fig is probably my favorite. -
Thanks, Fig and vine are no problem, we have them comming out of our ears. I will try and never thought of them. No olives here.

We'll have plenty of fig wood this summer. Is there anything that it's especially good for?
