Put some tomatoes, garlic, onion. and chilis on direct at 400. Turned them frequently getting a blackened skin on everything.
Pulled each piece off as they were done, the onion taking the longest, about 30 minutes. Let them cool for about 30 minutes then removed any loose skins.
Put the tomatoes, half the onion, half the garlic, one jalapeno, and two serranos into the food processor with the juice of a lime, some cilantro, some salt, and a little cumin. Gave it a couple quick pulses. Fried up some corn tortillas and had a tasty snack. -RP

As Bad as ever. -

Closed except when turning the pieces. -RP

That's a TASTEE lookin TREAT! Do you just deepfry flour/corn tortillas?
-
Yup, way better than store bought ones. -RP
-
Any certain type/brand tortilla? What kinda oil or does it make a difference? I wanna try em.
-
Any corn tortilla works, sometimes I'll mix white corn ones with yellow corn ones. Fry them at 350 for a few minutes until the bubbles slow down and salt them as soon as they come out. I use popcorn salt because it is very fine. -RP

Thanks for posting this Randy. Had a roommate years ago that used to roast the tomatoes and make his own picante and salsa. Got an award for his picante at the Terlingua chili cookoff. I wasn't really into cooking back then, so I didn't pay attention to how he made it but I have never forgotten how good it was!
