XL BGE Plate Setter Question

Evening folks,
I inherited an XL from a friend of mine that recently passed away (thank you Rick). It is the original XL with the flat top. He didn't have a plate setter so I bought one from the store. Installed with the legs up and grate on top. Strang thing is the grate sits about 1/4 inch above the base. I was wondering if that is normal for the XL (I've had a large for 3 years) or could it be the plate setter I got is for the new model?
