Had a little whoops! It was supposed to be mussels! Here they are with the shells completely burned to ash. DON'T ASK!!
Think I can salvage the Belgique pan? And the lid?
I had to leave the house for 2 days, cause it smelled so bad.

I don't see where in the 3 simple rules where it has to be cooked on the egg. If you could smell it in here, you would see why I wish I did cook it on the egg!Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

Actually Rebecca, there wasn't any smoke, or the smoke alarms would have gone off, and the sprinklers in my ceiling! Just a wicked awful smell of burnt mussel shells and burnt stainless steel! I have a new respect for the Belgique pans.Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

When Lamb Chop burns a pan she fills with ammonia and places outside for 3-4 days and then lets me scrub it with brillo. Usually works.

Wow, Faith, they say the first thing to go is the mind but in your case it was the mussels! Maybe a good thing. I would like to say that it reminds me of one of my cooks but honestly it doesn't. Well, maybe my first and only brisket . . .

Faith: That's about as burnt as it gets! Too bad I have never done anything like that, or I would give you some advice on how to save the pot!! Lemme know how the 'saving the pot' method works for you! I think you will be surprised! Thanks for the post! I think we've all pretty much been there!! (Can't even count how many times myself! )

Sorry the mussels didn't work out for you. As far as cleaning out the pot I've had good luck with a technique I picked up on Rouxbe.com. Fill the pot half full with water. Add 1 tablespoon or so of baking soda then cover and bring it to a boil. Watch it, cause it likes to boil over. Once its boiling take it off the heat and add a couple drops of liquid dish soap. Put the lid back on and let it cool off overnight.
It's no guarantee, but it definitely makes the scrubbing easier.

I boiled some stew beef dry the a couple weeks ago. My helpful daughter saw it was smoking but waited till it really smelled to let me know
Burnt seafood. I don't envy that smell.
