was in a local BBQ store and saw this narrow-shaft stand perfect for upside down chicken, la LS mode, BUT with 13% taxes there's no way i'm gonna pay almost 20 canuckian bucks for it...
so i took this $2 wally stand...
and changed it to this with a pair of pliers in five minutes...

Good thinking Gary!

Me thinks I'll keep my mouth shout  for a change.
Were gonna be watching for a pict. of your legs in the air bird.
Cheers,

Now, that's what I call engineering!!

Gary beware of your little neighbour he likes his chicken butt up & I wouldn't like to find anymore of his deviations
-
Cheapo!! lol : ,but non e the less a great idea.

Very interesting adaptation! I have four of those beer can chicken sitters in stainless steel, and often wish they were more narrow. I may sacrifice one and give this a try.
Did you have any problems with the open ends piercing through the chicken, instead of the chicken slipping over them?BJ (Powhatan, VA) -

Beli, I heard he's working on a new recipe for butt up butter chicken masala :silly:

Mike, i'd rather spend the bucks on the chicken!

BJ, haven't tried it yet but i'm optimistic it'll work out...notice the top ring has been removed so the three prongs are 'flexible'. i can squeeze them before inserting, upon release they should spread out and push against the neck cavity. in fact it may not be a bad thing to deliberately pierce one or two prongs into the bony areas around the neck (not the breast) for better 'grip'.

Gary:
I don't see any reason that it wouldn't work.....
You improved on it .
I was looking at one too, but thought it was too spendy also.
So for $9 more I went with one of the cast iron, vertical roasters. I love it. :woohoo: -
Where did you get the CI vertical roaster?
-
this one perhaps?

not sure if you can do upside down chicken though.canuckland -
Gary:
That is the one I got, but I don't remember where I got it! And it was $29 :P Not $39.
OTOH, I had to pay shipping, so I wouldn't doubt it cost $39 all well and done.
I'll have to do some checking with regard to where I got it.
Later..... -
Jerry and Dave, I wasn't recommending the place to buy it, just a quick random google image search to show the picture.

Thanks to both!
