I found a small for sale nearby, it was looking rough, but it was dirt-cheap. After all the “small hype” I’ve seen, I couldn’t help myself, and I was hoping to have a travel egg anyway. Now it has a dignified position with the large and the med.
Before: (The ring was fused to the box, DFMT stuck to the dome)
After some elbow grease, new bolts, and kiln time in the large:
The nest is a mess, and I’m having trouble getting the crud off the back of the dome.
Still need to get a good grid and an indirect setup.

Bill, I remember when you joined the forum a little over a year ago. Now you have 3 eggs, lol. You've got the bug. :woohoo:

Nice looking repair job. I bought a "DOG" Imperial Kamado a few years back and was never able to get the top off. Soaked in some kind of rust release and WD-40, even lightly tapped the top from the inside and the top cracked across the base. Finally JB Welded the top back on and it works great, can twist for the top for air flow just can't get it off. Still could not get the top off even ran heat to 350f still no luke. Did you get yours off and how? TIA

Very nice! My first egg was a small and I still use it almost as much as my large.

Sad someone let it get in that shape to start with. Good luck on the rehab.

Nice work - looks like an ultra cooper gasket.
A temporary plate setter could be a couple firebricks wrapped in foil. -
i got my used small about three weeks ago... i have used it almost 80% of the time now.. enjoy....

Yep, a year ago I'd have laughed at the thought that a grill could have much impact on your life. More like stage-4 Greeneggosis than a bug.

Wow, that one tops mine.
I did one long low burn to dry it out, still couldn't budge the top. Ran it at about 500 for a few hours, took a big stainless spoon, padded the dome with a piece of wood and pried it up in several places, it popped off. Pretty gross inside, used a wire wheel to clean it off. -

My gasket isn't as nice as the one that somebody did a few months ago - with the jig and all. I didn't want to pay the royalties required to use his idea.
Hadn't thought of the firebricks. They could be more than a temporary solution. -
Great find. I would love to find a small or a mini....even in that condition and restore it...if the price was right. Can't wait to see yours in action.
