First Full Moon Photos

Good Morning All,

Five a.m. this morning I dragged my carcass out of bed and braving the frigid cold and fierce north wind I ventured forth in search of the elusive Moon!

In truth it was about 60º and a very slight breeze if any out of the SSE. I was chilly dressed in shorts and a T shirt but had my coffee with me and persevered. :laugh:

It wasn't difficult to find . . .

If you would like a slightly larger image feel free to right click on this one and save a copy to your hard drive. It should save as the same size I put on P.B. . . . that's the theory anyways.

Venus - The Morning Star was in it's full phase as well and was brilliant coming up over the eastern horizon ahead of the Sun. Much to far away for me to get a good picture. The Wiki article HERE has a good image of Venus and there isn't much to see, just cloud cover.

I will try to take more shots of the moon when it rises again this evening. I don't know if it will be any better but it's worth a try.

Hahahahaha, yup, I just cut a 640X480 out of the original, not much to see.

Good luck tonight, I'm going to keep it simple and stick with the Moon.

Great looking pic of the moon.

I showed it to my eldest daughter and she's all excited about taking some pics with our new camera. I'm sure they won't be as good as yours, but they'll be much better than the white blob from our previous camera.

Thanks Michael, Good luck shooting the moon. Explain to your daughter that I have special camera equipment and that the moon is not the easiest thing to shoot. I have to edit my images in a couple programs to get them looking like they do, with out it they are flat and dull gray. I wouldn't want your daughter to get discouraged when there are so many other things that she could be photographing and possibly having more fun with. I LOVE to shoot wild flowers and with spring on it's way I am looking forward to them. I think they are a lot more fun then the dusty ol' moon.

Thanks Elizabeth and your welcome. Of course you are welcome to use this image (If you can make any money with it just cut me in. LOL). I suspect that the images tonight will look just the same. I may get something just as it is rising above the horizon that is different, only time will tell.

Thanks Adam, I use a Nikon Fieldscope ED 82 and a Nikon adapter to mount it on my Nikon D90. The sensor in the Nikon D series cameras is such that you multiply the length of your lens by 1.5. In this case the spotting scope is 1000mm and on my camera is 1500mm.

A good tripod like this Bogen 3046 off ebay is really needed as well as a cable release. The power of the scope is such that I can take a couple shots then have to sight on the moon again as it has traveled across the view finder, you can just about watch it moving. It makes a great rig, the lens/scope is not automatic anything so it is all manual but cost far less then say the Nikkor 600mm lens that retails for about $10,000!!!

We went out in the boat and floated around awhile and just watched it. I took some pics with my little point and shoot, but it is just not the same. A great sight to see, to say the least. Not a cloud in the sky, just beautiful

That's very impressive mister.

We picked up a half decent Canon over the holidays and really need to learn to use it properly. My wife shows me classes that I can take through the city. I told her I'm gonna just fly you up for a nice stay this summer. :P

We still gotta figure out how to turn those skills into greenbacks. :ermm:

Keep it up, we all love it.
