Dome Thermometer off center from handle center?

Ok gang, I've searched around for 25min., and cannot seem to find it. I do realize it's likely out there, but my searches fail.
Real simple...
Does the Dome Thermometer need to be 'centered' with the center of handle (as instructed)?
I ask only as I'm replacing my gasket tomorrow.
When I originally assembled with a friend, we had too many beers. :evil: We tightend like heck, and then looked up. :blink:
My friend said, "Oh crap (censored), the center is 'off center'! To which I answered, "Well(bleep), it is now in line with my kitchen window". Perfect view I thought at the time! From 20yds? Sure! Hahahahah....made total sense to us and we didn't correct it! Maybe you had to be there....ha!
But if it is worth doing 'as instructed', I'll do it right this time. More beer that is!

I have always been a little off center. :pinch:
I lean a little to the right so it would help if mine was off just like me. :laugh: :laugh: -
I deliberately moved mine off center for the advantage that you stated: I can see the thermometer through my window. I can monitor the temp when the egg is warming up while I prep without having to go outside every few minutes. Has worked great for me so far...
