I am looking to buy a meat slicer for at home use and I am wondering if anyone on here has any advice for what to look for in buying one or models that they would suggest.

I am in the same boat as you. I have seen more and more posts showing folks that are smoking more meat and using for lunches for the family.
I have heard great reviews on this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002AKCOC/ref=s9_simh_gw_p79_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1VM0YTKE3CFEQMVCNK7A&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846
IT sounds like a few people have good luck on craigslist but the commercial ones are not cheap
Good luck! -
That is the exact reason I want one. The quality of the lunch meat vs the stuff from the store would be way better. With corned beef briskets being on special right now I have been drooling over some pastrami sandwiches for lunch
Thanks for the suggestion -
ha! that's funny you say that cause i have been thinking the same about the pastrami and and going to smoke some probably tomorrow night and give it a whirl and have been stocking up in case it is unreal.

Search turns up a few posts on the subject.

I have a Chef's Choice model that I online from The Home Shopping Network for about $100. It is a small unit, easy to clean and easy to store, and adequate for my needs. It even came with an extra blade.
Shop around, there are some great deals out there
OK, just checked that link in the previous post and that is the unit I have at about the same price. HSN did offer it with an extra blade. It seems to be a well made little unit but it does have a limited capacity, I think the blade is only about 7". I will say that I just cured and smoked a boneless butt and sliced it for BuckBoard Bacon. Aprox 5lbs of delicious bacon for $1.75/lb -
I have the same one from hsn. You can even get on value pay for $33 a month. I really like it.
