Dual Function Top stuck with GREASE!!!
Hi gang... The wheel and slider of my Egg's "Dual Function Metal Top" has become so greased-up that it freezes in the cold temperatures. It hardly slides even after loosening the screws. [p]I take it that the top is cast-iron? If I use Vim to de-frease it, I'll likely need a thin oil again to lubricate and prevent corrosion?[p]Any recommendations for cleaning the top? [p]Many thanks from the Frozen Tundra of Ottawa, CANADA.[p]Todd

Sorry about that... not de-frease but if I use VIm to "degrease" it. (My fingers are too large for the keyboard. )[p]Todd

Todd in Ottawa, CANADA,[p]Next cook, place wheel in the EGG, coat with grape seed oil after that. Melt that grease off and coat.[p]CWM

Many thanks CWM - but
:
"Melt off grease than coat"[p]Coat? Re-coat with grape seed oil?
-
Todd,
Yes and let cook for a few more minutes. Grape seed oil burns at a higher temp then olive oil, will last longer.[p]Finish should last longer.[p]CWM

Many thanks Mike. I'll keep an eye out for Grape Seed Oil...

Todd in Ottawa, CANADA,[p]As Car Wash Mike said (and he should know with the rotten winter they've had in KC), I always open the slider all the way and stick the top inside the egg as soon as I finish a cook. Generally all the gunk will melt away as the fire goes out. [p]Wish I had a Molson right now.[p]Paul

Todd in Ottawa, CANADA,[p]Cook it. Next time you cook, when the food is done, put the daisy wheel on the grate and let it cook - 500 or so for a bit.[p]Burns off the built up grease, then coat as desired.[p]I do this to mine about every 4 months or so - when ever it gets gummed up.[p]LVM

PapaQ,[p]Molson is currently undergoing a shareholders vote to MERGE with Coors. I'm certain that you'll see a lot more of Molson in the future.[p]But why would you care about Molson when you have access to so many BETTER beers. Check out www.ratebeer.com for the best beer in your area.[p]BBQing goes hand-in-hand with good beer, no?[p]All the best [p]Todd
