Does liquid in the drip pan make a difference?

My guess is that the steam would both speed up the cook and make the food more moist, but I've been too lazy to try doing it both ways. I usually do an indirect setup with no liquid, since that is easier.[p]Is there a clear answer? And does the liquid [like maybe beer or wine] give the food any flavor?[p]Thanks!
