As some of you know I retired and cleaned out my office 12-31-10.I bought a display cocktail table 30"x48" to put some of my Indian artifacts in.Here is a picture in my old office and the new table in our den.My case with the axes and the cache of 8 preforms fit in the lower 2 drawers This was a fun project on a cool day.

Larry. Are those wired in place? All i can think of is my kids bumping into that table and the arrowheads getting jostled out of arrangement
looks great.
the stone axes are what blow my mind. the grooves in the sides of them, for example.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -

Very attractive display, Larry! BTW starting at the very center with the stone with the hole - was that used to grind a taper to start the point, or was that the fire starter stone using a stick and bow to create friction to start a fire?Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
-
No but the table is really heavy with 3 drawers full of rocks. If we have a problem I will hot glue them in place with a special glue that will not devalue the points. The blue cloth is also glued to a board.

Thanks Ron...The round rock is soapstone(steatite) and is was used to heat food and wrap in hides to sleep with at night.

Thanks...I may want to get rid of some later.

i'm thinking....if you know this is " off topic".... why do you feel the need to post on the "on topic"???? which is a cooking site...perhaps you are not aware... but we have an "OT" forum...???? ( go there if you want some recognition of your collection) your collection of arrow heads which is really cool.... but i''ll bet you don't post your pics of wings etc on arrow head .com.........i'm sure ..... that your arrowhead collector colleagues/ collectors are excited to see some pics of pulled pork? on their site. thanks'''' just a suggestion.... i may be wrong?' ray

Quite a collection, Larry, and a beautiful way to display them.
-
YB, that has to be the nicest collection of arrow heads I have ever seen, and I think the stone with a hole in the center is called a pump drill fly wheel. The only artifact I have is a metate and mano for grinding corn found in the Santa Rosa, new mexico area.

just out of curiosity... are you an expert in the field at all? locally?
i just can't fathom how anyone could have fund all those, retired or let alone PRE retirement
was it you that told me about searching the bends of rivers in certain ways, where they might get washed into a particular river feature, like gold does almost?
anyway... always fascinating.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -

First thing I thought when I saw the table. -
I have studied the Creek Indians for about 30 years. My friends call me lucky Larry but I think I just have a eye for seeing them.I am a member of the Central States Archaeological Society and have a ton of books on Indians and Artifacts.
