Any suggestions for a grill extender? I have a large egg and would like to cook as many rib racks as I can. I've read all about the rig from ceramicgrillstore, but what has everyone else done? Also read the Whiz's homemade one. What's some advantages/disadvantages? And what's the best solution for flexibility and cost?
Also trying pizza on the egg for the first time tomorrow... Hopefully I'll remember to post some pictures!

Money wise the GX grill extender from green egg works well. For $25 is gives a whole other level of cooking. I really want the adjustable rig though but have a hard time justifying the $150 when I already have a platesetter and spyder. I have done 4 racks of ribs flat with the GX extender.

I managed to smoke 6 slabs of baby back ribs laying flat in 3 layers. Using the spider and stone and drip pan for the indirect then the BGE porculin grid with 2 slabs of BB. Next the adjustable rig with the oval grid on the sliding grid setup with 2 slabs on it. Then the rig extender and another oval grid with 2 more slabs. I cooked the BB's Carwash Mike style and that worked great because it requires spritzing every 60 min's so I also rotated every 60 min's and the ribs cooked perfectly. Tim

Here is how I made it work.
With the spider and 14 inch stone and drip pan first
then the 18 inch grid
Then the AR with to two more slabs
Then the AR extender and two more slabs
I smoked them 250° until they were just how we like them! :P I did spritz them every hour with 50%/50% apple cider vinegar/apple juice and rotated moving the bottom up one place every hour with the top going to the bottom. That way every thing cooked evenly. Five hours later we wrapped them up for a short rest. -
Now you could try this. :woohoo:

I'm in the market too. I'd like to do more than 5 or 6 racks on my LGE. Thanks for the links to other setups.

I did my first cook of ribs using an inverted vee rack. Worked perfectly.

how many you need to do, the adjustable rig can get two levels of back ribs sitting verticle, probably 25 to 30 racks if you really needed to. record is 20 on one level but the coloring was off a bit in the photos. you need to be creative with setups but the adjustable rig comes in handy for alot of thingsfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I never thought about being able to do 2 grids with 2 racks. Thanks for the idea!
