thermometer question

Hello eggheads. I finally got accepted to the forum. Tried back in july to join, be something didn't work. My question is, I was calabrating my bge thermometer, and while the needle was raising, it would stop, then go kind of like a second hand on a watch but not as fast. I'm wondering if this is going to be an issue, or should it be replaced. Was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Thanks

I'm not clear on what you're telling us is happening... the needle moving like a second hand due to temp rise or as you adjusted the setting.

If you put the tip in hot water and the temp hand is not moving smoothly, moving like a second hand... trash the thermometer.

Yeah, it is unfortunate, but the bge comes with a lousy thermometer. Get yourself a Tel Tru Thermometer.

What is the model # of the best thermometer for the BGE? One only goes to 500*. Is there another one that goes higher or will this one be sufficient?

It is interesting - my OEM BGE thermometer is a Tel-Tru (says so right on the face). Works fine so far - its been a few months.

Ironically, I just called Tel-Tru a it earlier this a.m. asking if they could put one of their (green!!) glow in the dark dials on their standard BGE replacement thermometer...probably not..but we'll see when they call back! :woohoo:
