Careful with those ashes

Not a good idea to put ashes in the garbage - http://www.570news.com/news/local/article/160245--update-tuesday-fire. I'm a bit surprised the smoke alarms where disable because the electrical was damaged, isn't that why there are batteries for backup? Maybe an electrician can put my mind at ease.
I need to get a BGE ash bucket!
Update - Ashes were from a fireplace.

Homeowner claims the ashes were put in a metal bucket to cool then put in the garbage. Fire marshal says that is not good as ashes can start up after several days.
I'll keep burying mine in the back yard after a few weeks to cool off.Dave

I once took ashes out of a wood stove 6 days after shutting it down and there were glowing coals down in the depth of the ashes. That is enough to make one think.

Ok, electrician here! If they only had 120 volt SD and the power went of due to the fire in the garage there was no power to sound the alarm. That is why I always recommend 120 volt with battery backup but due to cost $$$$ many times it falls on deaf ears.

I was on the phone with him while most of that was happening and he didn't care one bit about anything other than LC's reaction when she saw those pans and was hoping that he could get replacements before she got home    I believe he would have paid $500 for replacements if he had to :P

I too had a mishap with my brand new shop vac... Suffice it to say it's no longer considered as a wet/dry vac. Simply a dry vac now
