I hope that's not just a regular garbage bag...
-
um...why?
-
Trash bags are not food grade plastic, according to the USDA chemicals can make their way into the food from the bags.

Go to local bakery or bakery dept at your grocery store and ask for a plastic icing bucket. The two stores I deal with give them away. I think it is a 6 gal bucket.
I brined a 24 lb turkey in my bucket for Thanksgiving. Bucket was full, but it worked -
Hmm, interesting. I never gave it much thought. Now that I'm aware of this issue I did a bit of amateur research. Seems there are whole lot of folks out there using regular kitchen trash bags like I currently am who have never had an issue. Also, some reputable folks suggesting you use them to line a 5 gallon bucket (like in my case). I feel even more confident that there will be no adverse affects since a government agency warns against it. Seems like a bit of hypersensitivity to me. If nobody hears from me in a week, raffle off my egg and donate the proceeds to a good cause.

As long as your using a quality bag I'm sure you will be fine, I use a smaller Gatorade style sports cooler stays easy to use and has the spout for draining.

My trash bag brined chemical infused bird after the first hour and first baste. Breast is at 75 and the thigh at 80, indirect set up just above 300 temp.
