I hate to open this can of worms, but need help...

I have a good friend "G'sBQ" that has sold his xl egg and is wearing me out on what he needs to buy. I suggested a large and a small. He then settled on 2 large. Now he is unsure. We need to place our order with the dealer by Friday (I ordered a small to add to my large) so we can save freight charges. So my question is....if you had the choice what 2 eggs would you really want and use?

large/ small is the best combo for what I do

I agree with Poolman. I have a large and added a small. It was the right choice for us.

I have a large and will add a small in the future.

I had a small knock off egg and added a large. Probably will add a real BGE small to the line up in the future.

I do have 2 larges but it's rare that they are both lit at the same time but the large/ small combo sees a lot of time together as does the small/ mini.

My wish list is for another large because all of my eggcessories are for large. If I had another large, I would actually save money because I would not have to buy anything else.
Hmmm...wonder if my wife will buy that argument.

I bought a large, then later, a mini. Very handy in the dead of a New England winter...
But indoor cooking is the only reason. Otherwise, I really don't see why anyone needs TWO (or more!) eggs. Sorry, but for 35+ years of family and party cooking, I somehow managed with a single Weber kettle. Now that I have an egg, why do I suddenly need more than one?I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Two eggs, different sizes depending on his needs. Mine are simple. Medium and Mini. I'm happy with my decision. Often light them both, but never the same temp or method.

I started with a Large, and as I live alone, that used too much lump for me. So I got a Small and it's my go-to Egg. I still use the Large for company-size cooks and for low-and-slow cooks to bag up for the freezer. If I had to pick one...I couldn't!

If I had a large family or a large group to cook for I would get 2 larges. There is my wife and I here and once a month we cook for 26. My choice for this is a large and mini.
Right now I have a large, medium, small and mini. The large and mini get the most use. My small being 2 or so years old now gets very little use, maybe 6 to 10 cooks in all. The medium a little more. In the spring I will try to sell the medium and small and at some point in time add a second large.

I's gonna show ya what can happen on a small.
or two -
Without knowing their cooking needs, possibly...
. different temperatures
. different foods
. only use one egg if needed
. more height for cooking (new XL's may have solved that problem
. easier mobility
. more accessories which could be used on either lg.
. burn less lump (guessing on this one as I haven't used and XL
. low and slow on 1 egg and some shorter time cooks on the other - pulled pork, chicken, sausage, ribs, corn or even do some baking.
There are a lot of reasons.

If he is trying to decide between a large and small as the 2nd egg, why not split the difference and go medium?Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I roll Large/Medium and love the combo.
Small would probably suffice and would be somewhat portable. -
I would have said keep the XL and buy a large if you want to have two eggs, but I guess get a couple of larges. Can you give us a little more info on what his criteria is for wanted two versus one?

have the large/ small combo, if setting up from scratch it would be two larges, then a mini down the road :laugh: i like the way the large cooks bestfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I have XL and Medium and love the versatility and capacity.
But, I could see the advantages of a Large and Medium combo.
Because of the extra capacity of the Medium, I would only consider the small if you were needing to be mobile (camping, tailgates, etc.) -

I have a large, small, and mini. The large is the best cooker in the bunch. If you’re not going to be traveling with them 2 larges is the way to go. Other then traveling I can only think of two reasons to get something smaller than a large. Space considerations and lump usage. If you have the space get the large. The difference in the amount of lump usage to me isn’t a big deal. If it is to you the small is a great option as well.

I started with a weber Bullet, then got a small egg, then sold my bullet and got a large egg, then got a mini egg cause I was sick of packing up the small for camping. It really depends on your needs though. There are just 2 of us so I use the small for nights when I cook dinner for 2 and use the large mainly on weekends for longer cooks on Saturdays and the food I cook for the week on Sundays. My weber bullet was 22" and I miss the extra space. I will be getting an xl as soon as I find a good deal. So far I have paid $650 total for my 3 eggs.

Large and small here.
As stated, the large cooks best. Lots of accessories. Does everything.
I use the small for quick small cooks (chicken and such), searing steaks, and it is also "portable". Can handle low/slow ribs pretty well. I don't see how people do pork butts on'em.
I like the combo.
