I use chunks and don't soak them.

I don't, used to on the offset

The ONLY time I do soak chips is if the temp has gotten away from me. I find that is the best and quickest way to bring down a raging fire and temp - it really does work. Otherwise no, I don't.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Yeah I do, but I'm not talking about pre soaking wood when you are ready to cook.... I'm talking about rehydrating wood that has really dried out. Sort of wood maintenance.
If I'm really trying for a super dooper smoke ring, I might soak a couple of splits (maybe 30% of them) as another way to get moisture into the cooker.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
I do for long cooks, will soak with water or beer. Quick sears, I don't. My two cents.

Ifin I got time and think about it, I soak em in beer (if no shortage)....most of the time no. :woohoo:Hunting-Fishing-Cookin' on my EGG! Nothing else compares!
