I have the Maverick 2 probe remote thermometer, use one for Egg temp monitoring, the other for meat temp monitoring. Can someone post pics of ideas for the alligator clip doodad that would clip onto the grate so I can get an accurate reading temp wise. I now dangle the egg temp probe down thru the daisy wheel, but there has to be a better way. Thanks all.

i just lay it on the gratefukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

That sounds like a really easy and inexpensive idea...Thanks!!

Here you go:
I bet if you called Maverick they might send you a replacement, or I'm sure you could rig something. I bet you could get a stainless steel alligator clip that you could slip the probe through.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -

I remove the thermometer and insert the probe through the thermometer hole. Works very well for me.

another great idea...thanks

I just took a small wood block and drilled a hole (slightly wider than the probe) through it. Insert the probe in the hole and place the block on the grid. Have been using it for years on my old smoker, and now on my egg.

Second the wood-block idea. Here's what I was using while I was still using my Maverick (you can see the probe/block near the bottom of the image):

Wooden blocks, a clothes pin with a hole drilled in it will work fine. My first gadget was just an L shaped scrap of wire with an alligator clip on each end (one for the grate and one for the probe). You want the probe a couple of inches above the food, so maybe 2 L's of different lengths would be a good idea. Later on, I tack welded the same type of L to the top of a bolt, this is a little more secure.
The BBQ Guru guys have a gadget called a probe tree that wedges between the bars on the grate and has a couple of receivers for the probe, or you can clip right to the main post. This one is handy because you can quickly move it out of the way when turning meats or rotating the cooking grate.

Wowser...cool looking idea, I will see if I can come up with something cheap and cool like this gadget. I did see the probe tree on BBQ Guru, but the budget has to be stuck to. These hobbies/infatuations/addictions can get expensive if you let them nickel and dime you to death. I appreciate everyones 2 cents worth. That is why this forum is so awesome.
Thanks to all who took time from their day to help a rookie. It is not un-noticed. Thanks again.
