Oven Gasket?
Lit
Posts: 9,053
I put a Nomex gasket on my large and melted it doing a pizza. I have seen alot of pictures here with what looks like an oven gasket. Where do you get those? I tried Lowe's and they said they don't carry them.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I got my oven gasket at an appliance store. I think it was about $25. I scraped the old adhesive from my egg with a razor blade. Then brushed on solvent and let it stand for at least an hour and scraped again. I used that "copper" adhesive in a zig zag pattern and put on the gasket. I only used it on the bottom rim, but it gives a perfect seal and well cushioned.

Should have added, I put waxed paper over the gasket when I closed the lid the first night, just in case some adhesive seeped thu the woven gasket, but it didn't. I love the results.

You didn't melt a nomex gasket....you may have melted the adhesive....but I'm sure you didn't get anywhere near the temps to "melt" nomex...either way the gasket you are asking about would be a rutland...fibergalss wood stove gasket...also not recommended for use around food, but indestructable just the same...many egg owners ignore the warnings and use them anyway it's only your call but BGE does NOT endorse the use of them..

you may want to ping RRP or do a search on rutland gasket, I believe RRP is the expert on the rutland type gasket. I will use this when I burn off the gasket on my new large. I used the nomex on my medium and have been happy with it but I had to dissassble it to put on the nomex, I don't want to do that with the large so I will try the rutland since you only have to put it on the bottom

Hey Lit, I installed the Rutland. It works great.

Make sure you buy Permatex ultra copper adhesive not he adhesive in the pack.
