I need to make a list for Santa and it crossed my mind that one of those long curved blade pizza cutters like used in pizza parlors might be a handy tool over the roller wheel thing I use now. Any opinions from those of you who use one would be appreciated!

For me it would be a unitasker that I would have a hard time finding a place to store it. Also I put my pies in a shallow pizza pan right out of the Egg and wouldn't be able to use that kind of cutter because of the lip on the pan. Finally I don't have a large enough cutting board for the size pizzas I make. -RP

Here's the voice of experience. I finally sold mine on Craig's List.
I slide my pizzas onto a cutting board, and the BEST cutter I've used is a 12" wide-blade Wusthof chef's knife. Yes, 12"--the heft and length is perfect for clean cutting of thick or wide items, and you can give it a little rock because is does have a slight curve to it. I got it after Sara Moulton talked about it on FoodTV years ago, and I've never been sorry.

Ron,
There is a knife company in our area that specializes in meat cutting knives. Their house brands have cheap plastic handles but decent blades. They sell them used for next to nothing. I have a curved blade (Moor sword) style one that is about 16" blade. It works great for pizza but is really good for hacking at big cuts of boney meat.

Judy, I bought a 12" after Sara talked about it too, love it. -RP

Steven, did you mean to say "loney meat??" :silly: :P :woohoo:

That is a good idea. I've used our chef knife a few times when the pizza cutters where in the washer.... I guess I've done that without thinking about it.

Somehow, I'll bet the "unitasker" that Ron has in mind is a LOT less expensive than a 12"!!! Wusthof! Which, for me anyway, would be a rarelytasker. My 8 inches is plenty. My Wusthof I mean.
I just use a cutting wheel.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

We have one, pizza night is every Friday and we make 3-4 pies. This is hands down the best tool I have ever used for cutting pizza. I can cut a 14" pie into 12 equal pieces in about 10-15 seconds with no hard straining involved. It is called the Rock'nRoll Pizza Cutter and is made by Dexter Russel (made in the USA)!

Steven, I was just checking. Are there openings in your organization? Due to a bad background I don't qualify, but my wife would like to join :P
