Lighter Fluid & BGE

Last weekend I went to a friends camp house and much to my surprise he had a large BGE. However, upon further inspection, he has been using charcoal and lighter fluid in it for a few years....obviously, he doesnt know better. At any rate, I'm going back this weekend and was wanting to cook steaks, but I dont want any lighter fluid taste. Is there anything that I can do to try to get rid of the taste before I cook those steaks?
Thanks
Thanks

By the way, I'll be bringing my own lump

Do a complete cleaning burn at 650 for 4 hours. Then train your friend on the proper use of starting the egg and the use of hardwood lump. Have him read the manual. For the cleaning burn, open the dome every once in a while to check the gasket.

Thanks....and we've already had a little talk about proper treatment of an egg and told him that if he does it again that I would have to rescue the thing from him

And stop at the depot and get him a mapp gas torch for Christmas............

Clean burn it first.

Just curious...did your friend ever do any low and slow like ribs and butt, or did he pretty much just grill? Can you imagine a lighter fluid/briquette smoked butt??Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Blech! I abhor the smell of lighter fluid...can't stand it when someone three blocks away uses it & I can smell it on the wind!

you are one with the wind.. feel the wind, hear the wind... be the wind.
one quick question.. I haven't done a clean burn, why open to check the gasket? what do you check for? burning?context is important -
I start my fire with 91% rubbing alcohol purchased at Walmart (pharmacy department). It burns clean and just requires a few squirts in 3 or 4 places. Be sure to get the 91% type since the regular 70% type has too much water content.Large BGE

Just want to make sure the gasket is still intact and not melted.
