I have never tried oak for smoke flavor, but now I have a chit-load of it  I had a dead/dying oak tree that was leaning precariously toward my house that really needed to come down. The cheapest quote that I got was $600 to drop it(from a pretty shady lookin group).Well,it turns out that my neighbor's buddy is a tree specialist guy  with the forestry service. It only cost me a couple beers, and I have to/get to cook a few butts for him in return.Win-win for me As a precaution,we hooked the tree to the winch on my Jeep, but all that was needed was a little tug.Lots of fun,but a little scary for me.Any local north GA eggfolks want some oak,let me know Here's a few pics....

Doug, I've got an oak log a friend brought over. It's surly aged after a year just don't know what to smoke with it. I'm guessing beef.Molly

Love to smoke with oak but you need to let it dry so the best way is to chop it up in small sizes. Let it sit outside for a year and you should be good.

Your first picture with a beer on the fender looks like the start of many Texas Darwin Award Events. LOL
