Today was our 44th wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to a local steakhouse that has been a favorite of ours for 43 of those years. Their speciality are dry aged steaks and white linen tablecloths and napkins. Our bill came to $128 and while that isn't huge to some folks here it's still a chunk of change. The meal was OK, but even my wife offered without my prompting that my dry aged beef was better and grilled better on our BGE!

Nice compliment, that. I'm better than all but a couple of places here, but I'm working on it.
And happy anniversary! -
How long do you guys age your steaks for, and at what temp?
-
I know what you mean!
Wifey"you never take me out"
Me "why"
"Because"
So on and so on.
???Are my Steaks not Better???
"Yes"
End of discussion! -
21-28 days until I'm REALLY Hungry!.Some guys go BESERK over it.

RRP: Total congrats on 44 years together!! Hope we can follow in your footsteps! We just celebrated our 8th... ...we have some catching up to do.
And yes, that is one of the reasons we seldom eat out any more!! It IS always nice to have a meal just put in front of you, but the food is better at home!! -
Congratulations!!! was 45 years for us in June

44 years . . . ? You don't have a long lost son do you? Dad?
-
A nice meal, too much wine, and your anniversary and you jump on the computer instead of tending to "other matters"?
Son, you're doing it wrong. -
That price is huge for me. Last time I spent that kind of money for a dinner, (it was for rack of lamb and a prime rib), I thought that the egg could have cook the meat better.
Comparing to the restaurant- they have much better meat so I'm at a disadvantage in that regard. Someday I'll dry age my own and then it will be verrrrry difficult to eat out!
Happy Anniversary Ron and Pat!

Morning Ron:
Congrats on the anniversary...we all already knew the steaks are better at home than the restaurant!Have a GREAT day!

Congrats! and that really is the down side of the egg isn't it :( when we do splurge for a nice dinner and drop a few pennies we are left feeling that we could have, at the worst, done as well on the egg. and then it is like... that would have bought "x" for a new accessory or x bags of lump... or $$ in really good steaks from the beef farm we buy from..
but sometimes it is nice to have someone else do prep and clean up and wait on you too.... plus once in awhile we need to remind the spouses how good we really are on the eggs! -
maybe she asked him to leave the room.

I agree with you about those places. We have done Sullivans steakhouse and The Angus Barn in Raleigh and spend a good bucks, but our steaks are usually better. Not always mind you. Those places can bang out a nice steak. Having one tonight as I think about it.
Congrats on your anniversary. That's awesome!!! Seriously. We did our 10th 2 weeks ago and I thought that was something. -
I don't age individual steaks but large sub-primals instead. Most range from 9 to 14 pounds. Right now I have a New York strip loin in a DrybagSteak product that is at day 22 and I'll probably go until day 35 now. My longest has been a large rib eye that went 45 days that resulted in fork cutting tender steaks!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Isn't that the best compliment & present?? Felicidades to you both & many more
-
congrats on 44 years. i just turned 44 myself.
...can't for the life of me imagine why you went to a steakhouse knowing what you know, but maybe you wanted a nice night out without any work.
still, get the crab cakes next time. you know the steak will only be a letdown! -
Thanks to all for your compliments! This morning we opened an anniversary card from a neighbor which included an Illinois Lotto scratch off card and what do ya know we won $40! Things just keep getting better!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
