OT: talkin to the butcher; is this good or bad?

want to make some belly bacon, and so i decided to call the butcher today to put in an order. they call in the orders on friday, and it arrives early in the week.

i asked for the meat department:

"hello, meat department, brian speaking"

i said "hi. i'd like to ask about getting some pork belly. can i order just one? they run about 5, 7 pounds, right?"

he says "you're in luck, i just finished calling in an order for some already, a customer was just asking for some too."

"ah, great, i said. i'm looking to make some bacon. will we be able to check them out, see that representative slice, the cut side and all?"

he says "yeah, no problem. is this jeff? how did the bratwurst turn out?"

is it good or bad when the butcher knows your voice over the phone?

I would say it is a great thing, I only wish I could find an actual butcher in my area.

The Butcher at my local BJ's calls me when I don't order large amounts of pork from him.. He wants to make sure I have switched to Sam's Club hahah

Yesterday while talking to my butcher in person he mentioned he had a surround sound system for sale. After learning more about the RCA system I bought it. We talk and trade all the time. I never buy large orders I always but small orders and he always gives me a great deal. I love my butcher. Tim

this right here. meat selection is pretty much deplorable. i long for a real butcher shop.

Dude tell me about it. It is bad enough that I am a fat guy in a grocery store but when all 4 of the butchers call out "Hey timmy, how's it going!" it gets ridiculous! I think the owner put them on commission once I started buying meat from them. I think I am putting the Irish guy's kid through Yale!
