I am thinking about drying our oversupply of tomatoes in the egg. Has anyone tried it?
Thoughts appreciated.

Capt.,
Not sure how you would go about it because as soon as you have a fire going the Egg will heat up to 200 degrees. I think that for you to dry tomatoes you want the temp around 140 to 150 for many hours. If you can get the Egg to do this then I say go for it. Otherwise you should use a food dehydrator. Just my opinion.

Yes lots of people have done it...here is a link to just one post..

Go to search and type in dried tomatoes and you will see lots of ideas... -
Stef the BGE makes a great dehydrator...many techniques on here for smoking salmon, drying tomatoes, peppers, jerky, cheeses, etc...and yes the BGE will hold low temps for long periods of time.

we did melted tomatoes and they were wonderful.
not sure what happened the the final product pic ??? but they were very good. roasted some garlic and just put in a jar with evo and I did not worry about them keeping as we could not keep out of them LOL on pizza, french bread, with some grilled vegis, tossed with pasta and shrimp. they got very soft and deep red and the flavor was wonderful!! -
Thanks Kim, those look good, don't have any Romas but am going to give it a shot. Will post pics.

Thanks Kim,
I didn't think that would work. Guess I got something new to try now!
